This is the fifth book in the Sugarland Blue series that focusses on the lives of those working for the local police department It s a book that mixes suspense with romance in equal measures as the author delivers a fast paced, harrowing story that hits hard with events that are truly poignant As the story begins Austin is going through a difficult time emotionally as his heavily pregnant wife is seeking a divorce Resigned to be the best absent father he can be Austin carries on with his dut This is the fifth book in the Sugarland Blue series that focusses on the lives of those working for the local police department It s a book that mixes suspense with romance in equal measures as the author delivers a fast paced, harrowing story that hits hard with events that are truly poignant As the story begins Austin is going through a difficult time emotionally as his heavily pregnant wife is seeking a divorce Resigned to be the best absent father he can be Austin carries on with his duties but a case of homicide finds him slap bang in the middle of a mystery It starts to look as if Austin has made an enemy who has no conscience and will do anything to hurt Austin When the most awful thing possible happens Austin will need to stay strong but there s someone on his side That someone is the medical examiner Laura She is pretty good at solving puzzles and always finds a way to speak out for the victims but this time it s not just the dead that need her it s a very attractive cop named Austin As they tread carefully following the clues they spendtime together but not everyone is happy with their burgeoning relationship and it looks like danger is about to come knocking at Laura s door next Fans of this authors previous Firefighters of Station Five will no doubt be overjoyed to see this spin off series It s very much a story aimed at those who love to read romantic suspense and indeed the romance in this book is certainly central to the plot What didn t sit well with this reader though was the fact that Austin has a pregnant wife and yet has clearly been lusting after another woman Oh there s no unfaithfulness but I still found it hard to empathise with him As the story and action progressed Austin does acquit himself but unfortunately not without behaving like an armpit at times Suspend all disbelief and just sit back and try to work out who the culprit is and maybe just which detective will get his own book next Ths author delights in giving us alpha heroes and then pairing them up with strong independent women which totally works I don t think it s essential to have read all the previous books but there are characters here who clearly feature throughout the series It s not my favourite by this author as I felt the couples happy ever after came at too high a human cost but I will certainly readThis author also writes paranormal stories under the pen name of JD Tyler I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review

Wish this one could have been handled a bit different, but overall it was ok Have a lot of questions in the end though Are we going to get a Danny and Frankie story, now that Danny is pretty sure he is no longer sexually confused What was the questions about the reporter by Austin all about Are we going to get a story with Lauren s Nascar racing brother That would be a killer story, or are we going to get a whole new series with Austin s Texas brothers I am always up for stories in my home Wish this one could have been handled a bit different, but overall it was ok Have a lot of questions in the end though Are we going to get a Danny and Frankie story, now that Danny is pretty sure he is no longer sexually confused What was the questions about the reporter by Austin all about Are we going to get a story with Lauren s Nascar racing brother That would be a killer story, or are we going to get a whole new series with Austin s Texas brothers I am always up for stories in my home state Yeehaw
