I loved this book, very easy to read, and hard to put down Given to me by a friend to inspire me to write i did learn from it that writing needs to particular style or form.

WARNING I read this novel for class, so that might have detracted from the experience some.I didn t mind this story It wasn t exactly riveting But the writing was quite nice to read sometimes Just the way the dialogue was used like something that was truly said, not just written Like Salinger had actually recorded the conversations and wrote down what he heard. The real disappointment, for me, was Holden Caulfield himself I could appreciate his sarcastic, almost deadpan sense of humour, b WARNING I read this novel for class, so that might have detracted from the experience some.I didn t mind this story It wasn t exactly riveting But the writing was quite nice to read sometimes Just the way the dialogue was used like something that was truly said, not just written Like Salinger had actually recorded the conversations and wrote down what he heard. The real disappointment, for me, was Holden Caulfield himself I could appreciate his sarcastic, almost deadpan sense of humour, but I find it difficult to read a book of self pity which this one has no shortage of Holden is quite irritating, setting my teeth on edge at times when he is paranoid or socially inept I always felt like he was just looking for an outlet for all his whining.I could not become sympathetic to this character, but it wasn t completely unbearable It would have been better had Holden had asignificant character arc and stopped calling everything phoney Two stars for not boring me to death, three off for not helping me to care at all

I somehow skipped reading this in high school With Salinger s death last week, I grabbed it from the library and read it over the weekend Unlike other classics that are worthy of re reading as an adult Fahrenhiet 451, Great Gatsby, 1984,etc , this one lacked any revelations or hidden messages I think I would have enjoyed itat age 16 when feeling isolated, scared for the future, etc might have struck a nerve for any teenager.

This books pretty good At first I pretty much couldn t figure out what it was ACTUALLY about So, I sparknotes ed it and found out that it s actually about not wanting to go into adulthood About being isolated and wanting love But at the same time thinking that you re better than everyone else and you end up driving people away.
