I picked this up because of the image of a treeful of angels, and it didn t disappoint me It s filled with many poetic imagages, reflections, poems and stories of her experiences of the holy in her ordinary everyday life A quote from Etty Hillesum a holocaust victim, It still all comes down to the same thing Life is beautiful And I believe in God And I want to be there right in the thick of what people call horror and still be able to say Life is beautiful Beautiful quote madeI picked this up because of the image of a treeful of angels, and it didn t disappoint me It s filled with many poetic imagages, reflections, poems and stories of her experiences of the holy in her ordinary everyday life A quote from Etty Hillesum a holocaust victim, It still all comes down to the same thing Life is beautiful And I believe in God And I want to be there right in the thick of what people call horror and still be able to say Life is beautiful Beautiful quote mademeaningful to me because of the movie Life is Beautiful I ll look forbooks by this author

The first half of this book is worth 5 stars regardless of how the rest turned out Macrina writes with such joy and fullness that you can t help but get pulled in to the depths of intimacy with God that she experiences The back end of this book is filled with letters and practices that can be very helpful if you aren t familiar with them For me the second half wasn t nearly as compelling as the first half, but the first half is such a game changer I can t imagine an entire book like that.

This is a teaching book regarding spiritual reflection and prayer You need to take time reading this book in a quiet place, undistracted I liked most of the book but found chapter 8 difficult to get through I am not a fan of journaling.

I think this is one of those books I shall return to often It s very easy to read a few pages, and stay with its thoughts, and then return a few days later and read a fewWhile I m not fond of the printing and layout the pages are dense, too much copy with too few breaks , I quickly grasped the idea of coming to prayer in a different way, seeing it as something that calls you and is with you throughout your day, a way of being rather than an act to be accomplished That resounds with me, I think this is one of those books I shall return to often It s very easy to read a few pages, and stay with its thoughts, and then return a few days later and read a fewWhile I m not fond of the printing and layout the pages are dense, too much copy with too few breaks , I quickly grasped the idea of coming to prayer in a different way, seeing it as something that calls you and is with you throughout your day, a way of being rather than an act to be accomplished That resounds with me, and the author provides some interesting ways of preparing yourself for approaching each day with that expectation The second half of the books is her journaling, as an example of how she experiences everything from a walk in the woods to opening her mail This is a book worth having on your keep me honest shelf Glad I have it
